Father Pete Logsdon has been staying at St. Ignatius while Fr. Jeff Allison, Fr. Joe Moyer, and Marin Hernandez are in France at the international gathering of young Holy Cross religious. Word has not yet reached the provincial house as to how much the collection was for the Mexico Mission. Fr. Pete usually does quite well at St. Ignatius. This causes all of us to wonder whether it was chance, fate, or good planning that this collection is taken up while Fr. Jeff and Fr. Joe are in France!!! Fr. Barry Cabell has arrived in Austin after his time in Newfoundland. It was a long journey, starting out with a 14 hour ride on a ferry to get to the mainland of Canada before starting the long drive across Canada, a good portion of the U.S. and to Texas. Barry will be working on developing some vocation material and information about the Congregation and the Southern Province. He will also be helping some of the brethren to be able to be on line. It is the 21st century, you know!!
Brother Matthew is currently working on a Clinical Pastoral Education (C.P.E.) program. When he finishes with that, he will study more Spanish in Mexico and then work at the parish in Monterrey, Nuevo León.
Fr. Bob Gilmour,
"our man in Ghana" tells us that there recently was
an important moment for Holy Cross in Ghana and the beginning of a new
era for St. John's School, Sekondi. St. John's Secondary School
in Sekondi was the institution through which Holy Cross returned to
the African continent in December 1957 after withdrawing from its
apostolates in North Africa in 1873. On January 1st, 1958 Bro.
Rex Hennel assumed the post of Headmaster of St. John's.
From 1958 till 1974 the Brothers guided St. John's from its humble
beginnings to become a highly respected school for its academics and
discipline.
Then in 1974 the Brothers handed over the
administration of the school to the first layman Headmaster.
Holy Cross has always maintained a strong presence at St.
John's remaining throughout the years a vital and influential force
in the education and formation of the young men who passed
through it. It has been that presence, the example of dedication
and service of Holy Cross at St. John's that has drawn young men (such
as Bro. Joseph Tsiquaye, Bro. Joseph Annan,
Bro. Nee Wayoe) to join Holy Cross and to serve the Church
in other ways as well.
Bro. Joseph Annan,
an old boy of St. John's, has become the first Holy Cross Ghanaian
Headmaster of St. John's School. The entire community of St.
John's School along with many invited guests and friends with the
Bishop of Sekondi-Takoradi gathered in Holy Cross Chapel, the school's
chapel, to induct Bro. Joseph as the new Headmaster of St. John's
School. His induction signals the return of Holy Cross to the
administration of St. John's.
Join us in praying that the Community of
Holy Cross through its work in education will continue to contribute
to the growth of the Church in Ghana, to the education and formation
of its young people and to the overall progress of the country.
