Congregation of Holy Cross
Vol. 13, No. 12
All these stories are true!! Some of them actually happened.
On Friday, December 13, the House of Formation in Guadalupe, NL, held their Posadas. A Posada is a traditional Mexican Christmas Party, recalling Mary and Joseph's search for lodgings in Bethlehem. The invited guests arrived at 7 PM and the Posada began at 7:30 PM with the singing of the Posada Song with half the group outside singing to come inside, while the group inside turns them down until they realize who Mary and Joseph are. Once this happens everyone joyfully comes in. All then went to the chapel for Mass celebrated by Father Len Collins. The candidates did the readings and led the singing with the help of professed seminarian Javier Herminio. After Mass, Mauricio presented a power point history of the House of Formation. Then the candidates, Angel, Carlos, Esmelin, Enrique and Mauricio served the snacks, the punch, the tamales and the King Cake. This was followed by the piņata and gifts of candies to all. All the Holy Cross people attended, priests, sisters, brother and seminarians, with the exception of Marin, who was studying for a test. Besides them, there were many invited friends and family. In all about 60 people participated. And a good time was had by all.
There were two posada celebrations in Austin as well. The first one was a gathering of people from Dolores Parish and Montopolis and students from St. Edward's University. They gathered at the Main Building and eventually sang, prayed, and worked their way into supper in the Maloney Room on the third floor.

There was another posadas at Dolores Parish. The people, led by Joseph and Mary, went from door to door and asked for entrance. Finally, they were let in at the front door. Despite the difficulties of gaining entrance, Joseph quickly left when he heard that there would be a piņata in the parking lot.
Father John Korcsmar, Sr. Rose Moreno, Sr. Olivia Jasso and Olga Ruedas had a workshop out at Steiner Lodge with Brother Joel Giallanza. Brother Joel shared about parish ministry in the light of Holy Cross traditions and charisms. An enlightened time was had by all!!! We later had a follow-up workshop with lay ministers at Dolores (see page 3).
