Fr. Neil Wack, CSC from Christ the King Parish sent these pictures of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in New Orleans. His brother, David, has been working on clean up with one of the railroads in New Orleans. We appreciate their sharing them with us.
The property at Sacred Heart of Jesus fills an entire city block, plus another building (activity center with classrooms and a gymnasium). The church is on Canal Street, one of the best known streets of New Orleans. The rectory (with three floors) is right behind the church. The rectory is a large building. The offices are on the first floor, along with a small chapel for daily Mass. The second floor has the kitchen, dining room, CSC house chapel, one small meeting room, one large meeting room, and two bedrooms. The third floor has approximately 7 bedrooms and the community TV room.
To the right of the church (looking from Canal Street) are the three buildings that Malta Square at Sacred Heart are using. Malta Square is a housing program which provide independent living apartments and assisting living apartments. They are currently using what had been a very large convent, a parochial grade school and a parish high school.
Holy Cross owns the land and buildings. After a long term rental agreement, the Malta Square buildings will revert to Holy Cross.
