November 2005

Congregation of Holy Cross
Southern Province
This month's edition is dedicated to all
the turkeys who make life what it is.
Vol. 16, No. 11

The Austin Region gathered for its monthly meeting at Steiner Lodge.  Fr. Harold Essling prepared a wonderful meal--as usual.  He was careful to choose low-fat ice cream to help keep Father Provincial on a diet.

There was a discussion of the information from the Council of the Congregation.  John shared the superior general's report to the Council of the Congregation, and there was some discussion.

In November we celebrate All Souls Day, el día de los muertos.  At Dolores Parish, we had an altar set up for the occasion and prayed the rosary.

There was a Mass last Friday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in New Orleans.  About 25 people came to have Mass with Fr. Bob Brennan.

Father Jack Miller is still undergoing chemotherapy.  He was in the hospital recently for a bleeding stomach ulcer.  They gave him two pints of blood and treated the ulcer, but they told him that he could not have any more caffeine.  That is a challenge for a man from New Orleans who is used to coffee with chickory in the morning.  Jack will have another CAT scan in a few weeks to see if the tumor has shrunk.  Please keep him in your prayers.

We are saddened by the news that Mrs. Eleanor Collins has died.  She had been battling cancer.  Len and all of her children were at her side when she died.  May she rest in peace!
