Father John Korcsmar, Sr. Carlota LeBeouf, MSC, and Sr. Audrey MSC drove down to Monterrey. John and Carlota wanted to meet with Father Daniel Panchot to talk about the project of linking Rio Verde, Monterrey, and Austin together. The pastoral letter Strangers No Longer: Together on the Journey to Hope by the U.S. and Mexican bishops suggests that religious communities accompany migrants.
Many people are moving from the south to the north; some come with legal documents, some do not. But all of them run the risk of being separated from at least part of their family and in a strange country with very different values than the ones they know. Can the Church help people stay united and faithful to their families, live their Faith, and not fall into the many temptations and dangers that may come their way?
We have learned that many people in Austin are from Rio Verde, San Luis Potosi. One of the things we hope to do in the near future is to visit there, get to know the priests, and learn something about the conditions in which the people there live. We hope that we can help those who are thinking of coming to the U.S. to know something of their rights and something of the dangers and problems that await them. We hope to find ways to help those who remain behind still feel connected with their loved ones. And we hope to help all of them (and ourselves) to become more faithful Christians.
While we were there, the pastoral staff from La Luz Parish had a Jornada. This is a day-long meeting to review the pastoral plan of the parish. During the meeting, they will see how they are doing in following the plan and asking whether there are things that they need to add, drop, or do differently. They meet together once a week for a meeting in the morning, but they have this special meeting twice a year.

The Jornada was a long meeting. Carlota and John did not stay for the whole day. But it was very helpful for them. It gave them a clearer idea of some of the things that are happening in the parish. Also they gave a description of the project that they are undertaking, and it was pointed out that the Taman area of San Luis Potosi should be added to the Rio Verde area because there are three Holy Cross religious from there, and there have been many missions given in that area.
While they were there, John went out to dinner with Sr. Lili's parents and sisters. They went to another restaurant that serves carne asada, grilled beef. A good time was had by all except by the cattle that were sacrificed for the event.
