Capital I.D.E.A. had their recognition and graduation ceremony at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. Although schools like the Austin Community College (where most of the Capital IDEA students study) have graduations when students finish a program, Capital IDEA has its own ceremony to recognize those who have gone through the program.
Besides the students, several public officials were there, including Congressman Lloyd Doggett, County Judge Sam Biscoe, County Commissioner Margaret Gómez, Council Member Danny Glover, Council Member Lee Leffingwell, State Representative Mark Strama, ACC Provost Tyra Duncan-Hall. Fr. Joe Tomei, a board member of Capital IDEA, gave the invocation.
Sr. Ann Monica Nguyen, C.S.C. is one of the counselors who work with the students. Not only does Capital IDEA provide tuition money, money for books, and some emergency help, they also insist that students participate in group discussion and be accountable to their counselor so that they show up for class, do their work, and can learn and develop good study and work habits.
